‘Football fit’

A healthy diet for footballers is an aspect that is quite underestimated in football. This is remarkable because scientific research shows that nutrition is responsible for 70 to 80% of your body composition and sports performance (!). Based on these scientific facts, it can be concluded that without a healthy diet, you will never get the most out of your football career.

Do you want to be the one who gets the most out of his football career? Then it’s time to take action today! Below are six reasons why a healthy diet is so essential in football:

  1. Healthy nutrition provides sufficient energy. During matches and training sessions, you use carbohydrates. Consider carbohydrates as the ‘fuel’ for your body. Your body needs enough (qualitatively good) carbohydrates to perform optimally. When these carbohydrates are insufficient, you will never reach a high energy level.
  2. Healthy nutrition ensures better recovery. Football is an intensive activity for your body, especially if you train and play matches several times a week. During these training sessions or matches, small tears occur in the muscles. This is a normal process, but your body needs the right nutrition to optimally repair these muscle tears. If this does not happen, the risk of injuries will increase significantly and muscle growth will also be hindered.
  3. Healthy nutrition improves focus. When you know that your diet is under control, you know you have done everything to appear fit and focused at kickoff. This allows you to enter the match with more confidence, sharpness, and focus.
  4. Healthy nutrition gives you a fitter feeling. Healthy food keeps your body fuller for longer. This means digestion takes longer, so you benefit longer from the energy this food provides. Additionally, digesting healthy food requires less energy, leaving you with more energy for the match. Therefore, healthy nutrition can also be described as a source of ‘sustainable energy’.
  5. Healthy nutrition supports muscle building. Nowadays, physical condition plays an increasingly important role in success chances in football. Strength training is therefore increasingly implemented in current training programs for footballers in the Netherlands. This has led to a wide range of useful training equipment to facilitate these strength trainings. However, there is still much progress to be made in the area of nutrition. You can do 100 hours of strength training per week, but without the right nutrition, you will never generate muscle growth. This simply has to do with the fact that nutrition plays a much more decisive role (70-80%) in body composition than training itself.
  6. Healthy nutrition facilitates better skills. Healthy nutrients improve concentration and alertness. In football skills, this translates to better passing and dribbling abilities. Additionally, your anticipation improves because you are much more concentrated and alert.

Based on this information, it can be concluded that a combination of good training materials and healthy nutrition is actually the ‘key’ to success in football. Want to know more? Then contact us today via this link.
